Pilot-hire terms

These terms apply when you hire a pilot on Share Plane for an aircraft that is not listed on PickYourPlane. For aircraft listed on PickYourPlane, the renter selects and pays his pilot himself.

  1. 1PickYourPlane charges only its commission when you confirm the pilot: trips 20% up to $10k, 15% to $50k, 10% above; contracts 15% / 12% / 8% (minimum $49), on the pilot's total pay.
  2. 2You pay The pilot directly — pay, per diem, hotel and any expenses, as agreed between you. The amounts on the post are for information.
  3. 3The pilot's contact details are shared with you once the commission is paid.
  4. 4For 12 months, every trip or contract with The pilot (or any pilot you met on PickYourPlane) is booked through PickYourPlane, with the same commission.
  5. 5To hire The pilot directly outside PickYourPlane within 12 months (full-time or freelance), you pay a one-time direct-hire fee of $20,000.
  6. 6The commission is not refunded if you cancel. If the pilot cancels, PickYourPlane refunds it or applies it to another pilot from the same post.
  7. 7The operator keeps operational control and holds the FAA authorizations for the flights (Part 91 or Part 135 certificate); it is responsible for their compliance and for checking the pilot's qualifications. The aircraft is not listed, rented or operated by PickYourPlane, which only introduces pilots.

Why the 12-month rule

PickYourPlane finds, presents and pays the pilot. The rule and the $20,000direct-hire fee reflect that work, like a recruiting agency's placement fee. PickYourPlane keeps a record of who saw which pilot's contact details and when.

What PickYourPlane is not

PickYourPlane is not an air carrier or aircraft operator and does not exercise operational control. Pilots are independent contractors. The aircraft owner/operator is responsible for the flight, its compliance with the regulations, insurance, and for confirming the pilot's qualifications and currency. Flights where passengers pay for transportation are not allowed.
